چکیده
Clarke, Arthur H. Polymorphism in Marine Mollusks and Biome Development. Smithsonian Contributions to Zoology, number 274, 14 pages, 5 figures, 1978.—Many arctic marine mollusks exhibit much greater intraspecific variation in shell shape and sculpturing and greater interspecific morphological overlap than temperate or tropical species of the same families. Tropical marine mollusks ordinarily exhibit more pronounced interspecific morphological distinctness in mixed-species communities and more remarkable intraspecific polychromatism in single-species dominated communities than their temperate or arctic relatives. A number of groups do not exhibit any variability shifts with latitude but shifts opposite to those here described have not been observed. Changes in the nature and intensity of natural selection, which are deemed to occur with increased biome maturation, appear to account for these morphological trends . Molecular Architecture and Biomedical Leads of Terpenes from Red Sea Marine Invertebrates
Marine invertebrates including sponges, soft coral, tunicates, mollusks and bryozoan have proved to be a prolific source of bioactive natural products. Among marine-derived metabolites, terpenoids have provided a vast array of molecular architectures. These isoprenoid-derived metabolites also exhibit highly specialized biological activities ranging from nerve regeneration to blood-sugar regulat...
متن کاملChemical Diversity and Biological Properties of Secondary Metabolites from Sea Hares of Aplysia Genus
The marine environment is an important source of structurally-diverse and biologically-active secondary metabolites. During the last two decades, thousands of compounds were discovered in marine organisms, several of them having inspired the development of new classes of therapeutic agents. Marine mollusks constitute a successful phyla in the discovery of new marine natural products (MNPs). Ove...
متن کاملDietary ecology of the Portunus segnis (Forskal, 1775) in the coastal waters of Hormozgan Province, Iran
In this study, the feeding habits of blue swimming crab (Portunus segnis) in the Northeast Persian Gulf were investigated. A total of 722 specimens were collected using bottom trawl. The samples were transferred to the laboratory in order to further analysis after freezing. All individuals were dissected and their stomach was removed. The results showed the vacancy index of stomach (CV) was 34....
متن کاملMolecular Identification of the Persian Gulf Sea Hare (Aplysia sp.) Based on 16s rRNA Gene Sequence
Background: Sea hares of the Aplysia genus are among the mollusks of interest for various researchers to study their phylogeny, bioactive compounds and the nervous system. These mollusks are herbivorous and produce chemical compounds (ink) to defend themselves. The present study provided molecular identification of the Persian Gulf (Bushehr city) sea hare using 16s rRNA gene sequence. Materials...
متن کاملBiota-sediment accumulation factor and concentration of heavy metals (Hg, Cd, As, Ni, Pb and Cu) in sediments and tissues of Chiton lamyi (Mollusca: Polyplacophora: Chitonidae) in Chabahar Bay, Iran
Heavy metals and some organic substances which are drained into the aquatic environments and cannot be decomposed or eliminated will sink into sediments or find their way into different levels of food chain. Bioaccumulation is the process of continuous deposition and aggregation of these substances into the body tissue of living organisms. Mollusks are remarkably appropriate to be used as bio-i...
